Workday Time Tracking & Absence Consultant

Overview

We are looking for a senior Workday Time Tracking & Absence Consultant to join a mature Workday environment and take ownership of configuration, support and continuous improvement across both Workday Time Tracking and Absence.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong configuration capability across both areas. Time Tracking experience is essential; candidates with Absence experience alone will not be suitable.

The successful candidate will be comfortable operating independently across BAU support, change requests and project delivery, working closely with HR Technology and business stakeholders in a complex global environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own Workday Time Tracking and Absence activity end-to-end with minimal supervision.
  • Configure, maintain and enhance Workday Time Tracking and Absence functionality.
  • Support complex worker time and absence requirements across multiple countries and jurisdictions.
  • Configure and maintain:
    • Time Off Plans
    • Leave of Absence
    • Accruals
    • Carryover Rules
    • Eligibility Rules
    • Work Schedules
    • Time Entry
    • Time Calculations
    • Time Blocks
    • Validations
    • Approvals
  • Investigate and resolve configuration and calculation issues.
  • Diagnose problems efficiently, identify root causes and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Manage change requests through requirements, configuration, testing and deployment.
  • Provide ongoing BAU support within a production Workday environment.
  • Contribute to Workday projects and larger transformation initiatives where Time & Absence expertise is required.
  • Work directly with HR Technology, HR, Payroll and wider business stakeholders.
  • Assess dependencies and downstream impacts across Payroll, Core HCM, Reporting and Integrations.
  • Account for country-specific requirements when designing and configuring solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing processes, configuration and ways of working.
  • Ensure configuration changes are thoroughly tested and delivered to a high standard.

Experience & Technical Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum 6 years' Workday experience, with 10+ years preferred.
  • Deep, hands-on configuration experience across both Workday Time Tracking and Absence.
  • Strong practical experience with:
    • Time Off Plans
    • Leave of Absence
    • Accruals
    • Carryover Rules
    • Eligibility
    • Work Schedules
    • Time Entry
    • Time Calculations
    • Time Blocks
    • Validations
    • Approvals
  • Proven experience supporting complex multi-country or global Workday environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability, particularly around time calculations, configuration and business process issues.
  • Strong understanding of dependencies between Time & Absence and:
    • Payroll
    • Core HCM
    • Reporting
    • Integrations
  • Experience working across BAU, change requests and project delivery.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables with limited oversight.

Desirable Experience

  • Current Workday Time Tracking and/or Absence certification.
  • Experience within a global Workday implementation or support environment.
  • Strong production environment experience.
  • Experience with complex international leave, absence and time rules.
  • Consultancy, AMS or large-scale Workday experience.
  • Strong business-level English communication skills.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Can independently own Time Tracking and Absence configuration from requirement through to deployment.
  • Can quickly diagnose complex configuration and calculation issues.
  • Understands the impact of Time & Absence changes across the wider Workday ecosystem.
  • Can work directly with business and HR Technology stakeholders to understand and resolve problems.
  • Understands and navigates country-specific requirements and complexity.
  • Can manage configuration changes through design, build, testing and deployment.
  • Takes ownership of issues rather than simply resolving individual tickets.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve the way Time & Absence is configured and operated.
  • Can balance BAU support with continuous improvement and project delivery.

The Profile We Are Looking For

This role is suited to an experienced Workday Time Tracking & Absence specialist who is genuinely hands-on and has substantial experience operating in live Workday environments.

Time Tracking is a critical requirement for this position. We are looking for someone with meaningful, practical Time Tracking configuration experience alongside strong Absence capability.

The ideal candidate will be able to step into a complex environment, understand the existing configuration quickly and begin adding value without requiring significant day-to-day direction.

Profiles That Are Not a Fit

We are not looking for:

  • Absence-only consultants with little or no meaningful Time Tracking experience.
  • Payroll consultants who have only peripheral exposure to Time & Absence.
  • Candidates whose experience is exclusively implementation-focused with no meaningful BAU or change ownership.
  • Junior configuration profiles requiring significant daily supervision.
  • Candidates who have primarily worked around the modules rather than directly configuring them.
