Workday Core HCM Consultant

Overview

We are looking for a senior Workday Core HCM Consultant to join a mature Workday environment and take ownership of Core HCM activity across BAU support, change requests and project delivery.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced Workday professional who can operate independently, understand complex organisational requirements and deliver high-quality configuration with minimal supervision.

The successful candidate will have deep expertise in Workday Core HCM configuration rather than broad HRIS experience with limited Workday exposure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own Workday Core HCM activity end-to-end across BAU, change requests and project delivery.
  • Configure and maintain Workday Core HCM functionality in line with business requirements.
  • Manage and supportworkerlifecycle processes, including:
    • Hire
    • Change Job
    • Transfer
    • Termination
    • Organisational changes
  • Configure and maintain:
    • Supervisory Organisations
    • Job Profiles
    • Positions
    • Staffing Models
    • Business Processes
    • Condition Rules
    • Validations
    • Approvals
    • Notifications
  • Work within an agile/sprint-based delivery model, managing change requests through to completion.
  • Investigate issues, identify root causes and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing Workday processes and configuration proactively.
  • Work closely with HR Technology teams, HR stakeholders and wider business teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Assess downstream impacts of Core HCM changes across other Workday modules and integrations.
  • Contribute to wider Workday projects where additional Core HCM expertise is required.
  • Maintain high standards of configuration, documentation, testing and change delivery.

Experience & Technical Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum 6 years' Workday experience, with 10+ years preferred.
  • Extensive hands-on experience configuring Workday Core HCM.
  • Strong practical experience across:
    • Supervisory Organisations
    • Job Profiles
    • Positions
    • Staffing Models
    • Worker Lifecycle
    • Hire
    • Change Job
    • Transfer
    • Termination
    • Organisational Changes
    • Business Process Configuration
  • Strong experience configuring:
    • Condition Rules
    • Validations
    • Approvals
    • Notifications
  • Experience working within a global Workday environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently with limited day-to-day management.
  • Experience supporting both BAU activity and change delivery within an agile or sprint-based environment.
  • Strong understanding of how Core HCM configuration can impact other Workday modules and downstream processes.

Desirable Experience

  • Current Workday certification.
  • Experience within a large global enterprise.
  • Consultancy, AMS or large-scale Workday implementation/support experience.
  • Experience working within complex or highly regulated international organisations.
  • Strong business-level English communication skills.
  • Experience working directly with senior HR Technology and business stakeholders.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Can take high-level requirements and translate them into effective Workday configuration.
  • Takes full ownership of Core HCM activity rather than requiring step-by-step direction.
  • Can independently troubleshoot issues and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Proactively identifies process improvements and configuration opportunities.
  • Understands the wider impact of Core HCM changes across the Workday ecosystem.
  • Can work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Delivers change requests to a high standard within agreed timelines.
  • Is comfortable moving between BAU support, enhancement requests and project delivery.
  • Sees the next priority and takes action rather than waiting to be instructed.

The Profile We Are Looking For

This role is suited to an experienced Workday Core HCM specialist who has spent significant time working directly in the Workday platform and is comfortable owning configuration and delivery.

We are looking for someone who can operate as a subject matter expert, bring strong technical judgement and add value from day one.

Profiles That Are Not a Fit

We are not looking for:

  • Generalist HRIS professionals with limited Workday experience.
  • Candidates whose Workday exposure is primarily coordination or administration rather than configuration.
  • Performance, Talent or other module-heavy Workday profiles without substantial Core HCM depth.
  • Candidates who require close daily management or detailed instruction.
  • Profiles that have worked around Workday but have limited hands-on configuration experience.
