We have partnered with our client in their search for a VP of Technology. An Ideal candidate must have retail experience and leading an enterprise transformation from waterfall to Agile. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Serves as the technology and business process leader advising and implementing integrated core enterprise solutions.
  • Works closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into solutions and participate in external networking and industry expertise forums to adopt best practice and bring ideas that influences digital core application landscape.
  • Educates the organization on emerging trends, opportunities, and new technologies that can continue to help become more efficient and effective.
  • Sets ambitious and clear portfolio vision and communicate ‘the story’ effectively to key stakeholders and team.
  • Defines and develops digital core enterprise platform/services to enable strategic business priorities. Optimize enterprise portfolio to maximize the usage of tools and ensure tight integration across the ecosystem.
  • Orchestrates the end-to-end employee experience journey to drive business process improvements and provide simple relevant data and insights.
  • Defines metrics and track qualitative and quantitative value delivered from solutions.
  • Manages extensive matrix interactions with multiple stakeholders across the organization.
  • Serves as a thought leader and advocate initiatives in the organization to improve processes.
  • Leads a staff of software engineers, solution architects and support staff to deliver secure solutions that drive expected business benefits/ROI. Plays a player/coach, hands-on leader focused role.
  • Provides thought leadership and acts as a trusted technical and functional adviser to the business and technology leadership team.
  • Articulates with stakeholders to determine the benefits and/or tradeoffs associated with relevant technology solutions.
  • Serves as a solution partner to critical stakeholders. Leads activities to provide business solutions for business initiatives, improvements, and strategies. Actively participates in capital and expense planning. Prepares, monitors and manages capital/expense budgets.
  • Responsible for project direction, management and successful completion of assigned Business Plan Initiatives following System Development/Project Life Cycle and Change Management policies/procedures.
  • Builds software solutions, applications, tools and processes supporting critical functions and ensures that business areas have an overall positive experience with the technology function.
  • Builds and maintains a high performing team by developing and recruiting top talent. Provides supervision, coaching and direction to Software Engineers and supporting staff.
  • Attracts, retains, manages and mentors a team of software engineers with expertise across all relevant areas of technology. Possess experience in leading Agile transformation.
  • Participates in technology driven initiatives that support the advancement of the technology stack creating a secure and current environment.
  • Brings a highly effective technology management discipline to her/his functional oversight to include budgets, human capital and business impact.
  • Creates strong development practices, standards and processes for code development. Follows industry best practices and company guidelines to create maintainable site code.
  • Guides decisions on technical architecture and strategy to ensure high levels of system and software scalability, performance, and availability.
  • Manages multiple teams and technologies, including external development partners, working on various business initiatives.
The new VP of Technology should focus on the following:
  • Partner with the business leaders and the enterprise IT function to create a successful shift from a reactive to a proactive technology environment where technology is enabling the business and driving increased revenue.
  • Assess current state of technology within the organization and create a strategic roadmap that aligns with both the business and enterprise IT goals.
  • Establish effective relationships with key stakeholders to include both internal IT leadership, and external IT solution providers.
  • Set a delivery precedent including shorter-term value contributions and a clear, aligned roadmap beyond.
  • Assess required talent needs and acquire, engage, and develop talent to establish a high-performing team.
Qualifications:

The successful candidate should have 10+ years of software engineering experience in a leadership position, working with vendor and custom applications/solutions, and, experience with implementations of large-scale projects.
  • Strong Retail knowledge, POS experience, Software Development and Software Distribution in a 100+ store environment
  • Toshiba ACE or related POS experience strongly preferred.
  • Successful track record leveraging AWS and/or Azure Cloud technologies.
  • Experience supervising team members, and champion efforts associated with talent management and development.
  • Strong IT operations experience and systems analysis expertise.
  • Large Program / Project Management experience.
  • Experience with software contract negotiations and related financials.
  • Desire to make processes and technologies better with a strong focus on delivery and execution.
  • Ability to successfully manage through ambiguity and organizational change.
  • Strong understanding of strategic planning and a creative problem-solving nature.
  • Innovative digital leader with a proven track record of driving digital transformation of core operations.
  • Effective communicator who is able to serve as a change agent in a culture which is deeply focused on embracing digital practices and leveraging technology.
  • Politically astute; able to navigate complex organizations; demonstrated ability to achieve results through influence in a cross functional, global matrixed team environment.
  • Assesses quickly with a track record of getting up to speed and adding immediate value to new situations.
  • Exceptional ability to co-create and work collectively with various IT and business leaders and other key stakeholders.
  • Effective change agent, can lead change, think out of the box, & make new ideas happen. Ability to communicate vision and strategy.
