Our client is a growing construction company with approximately 80 employees and $100M in revenue, with plans to scale toward $300M. They are seeking an Interim VP of Human Resources to transform HR from a primarily transactional function into a strategic business partner.

This executive will assess the existing HR team, build the HR/People strategy, lead organizational design and restructuring initiatives, and establish the talent infrastructure needed to support rapid growth.

The ideal candidate is an assertive, hands-on HR leader who can operate independently, partner effectively with senior leadership, and turn strategy into action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an HR and talent strategy aligned with business growth.
  • Assess the current HR organization and build the future-state People function.
  • Lead organizational design, restructuring, and role clarity initiatives.
  • Build workforce planning tied to project pipeline, growth, and business needs.
  • Develop succession plans and leadership development programs for critical roles.
  • Establish talent reviews, performance calibration, career paths, and success profiles.
  • Strengthen talent acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Partner with operations and finance on workforce needs and hiring plans.
  • Help define and strengthen company culture and leadership expectations.
  • Provide executive-level HR guidance while remaining highly hands-on in execution.

Ideal Background

  • Senior HR leadership experience in a growing, operational, field-based, or project-driven organization.
  • Proven experience building or transforming an HR/People function.
  • Strong background in workforce planning, succession, talent management, and organizational design.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership and facilitating talent reviews.
  • Ability to assess capability and performance with candor.
  • Strong recruiting and retention experience in competitive labor markets.
  • Comfortable operating independently with limited direction.
  • Construction experience preferred, but not required.

Team

Small HR organization with a Director currently leading HR and approximately 2-3 HR direct reports for this role.

Success in the Role

The successful interim executive will leave the organization with a stronger People function, clear HR strategy, improved organizational structure, and scalable talent practices that support the company's path from $100M toward $300M in revenue.
