We're working with one of our partners, a leading financial services organisation, in their search for a hands-on Technical Lead - Java. You'll own and deliver cloud-native, microservices-based payment platforms, mentor engineers, and drive technical excellence across the team. This is a daily rate contract opportunity, 6-month initial engagement.
Responsibilities
Lead design, delivery, and deployment of Java microservices using Spring Boot / Spring Cloud.
Define architecture standards, best practices, and guide code quality and security.
Mentor engineers, review code, and set the technical direction for the team.
Oversee CI/CD pipelines and manage Kubernetes and cloud deployments.
Troubleshoot production issues, optimize performance, and implement observability.
Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams in Agile/Scrum.
Skills Required
7+ years of Java experience, with modern Java (8+) and Spring Boot / Spring Cloud.
Strong experience with microservices, REST APIs, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Proven experience in financial services or payments environments.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
Leadership experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical strategy.
Strong debugging, profiling, and performance tuning skills.
Nice to Have:
Kafka / RabbitMQ or other message-driven architectures.
Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK.
Security and compliance experience relevant to financial systems.
