Overview
We have partnered with our client our client, a leading financial services organization, is seeking a senior Technical Accounting / Accounting Policy professional to support a lean accounting policy team during a period of significant strategic activity, including the implementation of a large reinsurance transaction and other key finance and accounting initiatives.
There is potential for a full-time opportunity if there is mutual interest.
The ideal candidate will be able to quickly step in and provide hands-on technical accounting support.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical accounting subject matter expert, advising on complex accounting matters and ensuring appropriate application of accounting standards.
- Research and analyze accounting treatment for investments, derivatives, treasury activities, and other complex financial services transactions.
- Support the interpretation and implementation of accounting guidance related to strategic transactions, business initiatives, and organizational changes.
- Prepare technical accounting memoranda, position papers, analyses, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain and update accounting policies within assigned areas of responsibility.
- Assist with transaction structuring discussions to evaluate accounting implications and achieve desired accounting outcomes.
- Partner closely with finance, accounting, auditors, and external advisors to evaluate, document, and resolve technical accounting issues.
- Support accounting analyses related to reinsurance transactions and other complex business activities.
- Monitor emerging accounting standards and assess potential impacts to the organization.
- Assist with financial reporting disclosures, including review of complex footnotes and technical accounting disclosures.
- Identify accounting risks and recommend practical solutions and controls for mitigation.
- Serve as an additional resource to a lean accounting policy team during a period of elevated workload.
- Support special projects and ongoing technical accounting initiatives across the finance organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Active CPA required.
- 5-7+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Strong technical accounting and U.S. GAAP expertise.
- Financial services industry experience required (insurance, banking, asset management, or related sectors).
- Experience interpreting and applying complex accounting guidance.
- Experience preparing technical accounting memoranda and accounting policy documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with auditors, finance leadership, and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Insurance industry experience preferred but not required.
- Big Four public accounting experience preferred.
- Investment accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with derivatives accounting is a plus.
- Reinsurance accounting experience is a plus but not required.
- Experience supporting strategic transactions, acquisitions, restructurings, or other complex business initiatives.
- Familiarity with statutory accounting principles is beneficial.
