Scope of Responsibilities:
Responsible for installation, operation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repairs of electric utility substation, distribution and production plant electrical equipment including but not limited to circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, protection and control systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor starters and controls conduit, cable and wiring systems up through 15kV.
- Determines jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, procures materials, coordinates outages, completes work, places systems back into service.
- Interprets and maintains wiring diagrams, schematics, updates system logs, drawings and documentation on utility systems.
- Assists with troubleshooting and maintenance of program logic controller (PLC) based auxiliary systems.
- Designs and implements control system changes or new control schemes and advises utility staff of changes.
- Installs and configures new modules, control stations, firmware and software revisions for the utility computer-based control systems.
- Monitors system performance, using system interfaces, and makes recommendations for system improvements.
Education and Work Requirements:
- State of Iowa Journeyman's License required
- Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License
- Journey level electrician with six years of experience in utility systems, industrial, process or power plants. Experience must include at least four years with electric motor controls, station power systems, and/or electrical and electronic control systems and at least two years of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems, CAD systems and their associated database management systems, or.
- An AAS or BS degree in electronics or instrumentation and control systems, with four years of experience in utility systems, industrial, process or power plant. Experience must include at least four years with electric motor controls, station power systems, and/or electrical and electronic control systems and at least two years of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems, CAD systems and their associated database management systems.
