SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT - RETAIL/ECOMMERCE
A global retail organization is seeking a hands-on Solution (or Domain) Architect to lead the design and evolution of its retail and e-commerce technology landscape, primarily supporting the consumer products business. The Solution Architect will sit between strategy and execution, requiring deep retail/e-commerce experience, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to roll up sleeves in a small, fast-moving team.

Notes:

You will need to be technical/able to get hands on AND have experience working in the Retail/ Ecommerce space to be considered for this role.

6 month initial contract, paid USD per hour

Remote working from Brazil

You will need to be set up to freelance in Brazil

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end architecture for retail and e-commerce across physical stores and digital channels
  • Design and evolve complex, composable, event-driven commerce architectures
  • Actively contribute hands-on (design, troubleshooting, technical decision-making), not just documentation
  • Anticipate risks and proactively prevent issues based on prior retail/e-commerce experience


You will lead and support initiatives including:

  • New POS platform selection and integration
  • E-commerce platform enhancements and integrations
  • OMS and manufacturing/production execution enhancements in Europe
  • Merchandise planning, replenishment, and inventory flows
  • New in-store digital and mobile experiences
  • Franchise retail architecture design
  • Partner closely with business stakeholders, translating technical complexity into clear outcomes
  • Coach and influence teams rather than direct through authority
  • Support enterprise architecture governance and approvals where needed


Requirements:

  • 5+ years as a Solutions Architect with a strong hands-on background in retail and e-commerce, from engineering through architecture
  • Comfortable coding, designing, and troubleshooting when required
  • Experience predicting and mitigating real-world retail/e-commerce failures
  • Able to operate effectively in a small, agile team within a large enterprise
  • International enterprise experience
  • Exposure to multi-region retail/e-commerce (US & Europe)
  • Experience working at the intersection of IT, business, and operations
  • Coach and influencer mindset
  • Humble, collaborative, and business-oriented
  • Willing to "own the problem" regardless of boundaries
  • Curious, continuously learning, and action-focused


Technology Stack (not all required)

  • ERP: SAP ECC (R/3); S/4HANA exposure a plus
  • E-commerce: Composable commerce architectures
  • Platforms: CommerceTools, event-driven architectures
  • Frontend: Next.js (or modern JS frameworks)
  • CMS: Amplience (or similar)
  • OMS: Sterling OMS
  • Manufacturing/Execution: Plex (nice to have)
  • Retail/POS: Oracle Micros Xstore or equivalent POS systems
  • Merchandise planning/replenishment tools (e.g., RELEX)
