Solution Architect - Payments Transformation

Initial 6-Month Daily Rate Contract
We are currently seeking an experienced Solution Architect on behalf of our banking client based in Dublin for a key role within a large-scale payments transformation programme. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile initiative focused on modernising payments capabilities, enhancing architecture standards, and supporting the delivery of strategic banking transformation projects.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in defining end-to-end solution architecture across complex payments initiatives while working closely with business stakeholders, delivery teams, vendors, and enterprise architecture functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and own end-to-end solution architecture across payments transformation initiatives
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Work closely with engineering, infrastructure, security, and delivery teams to ensure alignment across architecture and implementation
- Produce high-level and detailed solution designs, architecture documentation, and integration specifications
- Support the modernisation of payments platforms and related banking systems
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, governance, security, and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with third-party vendors and technology partners across programme delivery
- Provide architectural leadership across project lifecycle phases including design, implementation, testing, and deployment
- Support decision-making around cloud adoption, integration patterns, APIs, and platform strategy
- Participate in architecture governance forums and design reviews
Required Experience:
- 7+ years' experience working in Solution Architecture roles within banking or financial services
- Strong experience working on payments transformation programmes
- Good understanding of payment systems and frameworks including SEPA, SWIFT, ISO 20022, Faster Payments, or card/payment processing platforms
- Experience designing complex enterprise solutions across distributed systems and integrations
- Strong knowledge of APIs, microservices, middleware, and integration architecture
- Experience working within cloud-based and hybrid environments
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience working within Agile and large-scale change environments
- Ability to work across both business and technical teams
Desirable Experience:
- Experience with core banking transformation programmes
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations within payments
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or cloud-native architecture
- TOGAF or similar architecture certification
- Experience working within Irish or UK banking environments
