Role: Senior Manager / Associate Director, Accounts Payable (Contract)
Location: Hybrid (Bay Area preferred)
Duration: 6-month contract with potential extension

Summary
Seeking an experienced AP leader to stabilize operations following a recent system transition. The role focuses on reducing invoice backlogs, improving processes, and ensuring smooth day to day AP performance while partnering with technical and accounting teams. This position requires a hands-on manager comfortable working in a lean environment and guiding a team through both operational and system-related challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a small AP team, providing daily leadership, coaching, and support.
  • Drive backlog resolution while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and service quality.
  • Act as the main contact for escalated AP issues, including system and workflow challenges.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to troubleshoot system problems, refine processes, and enhance adoption of new tools.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and support SOX compliance activities.
  • Standardize and document procedures to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Mentor staff across areas such as invoice processing, vendor relations, and payments.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and lead initiatives to optimize AP performance after system changes.
  • Support senior leadership with reporting, issue resolution, and operational planning.
  • Be willing to step in on transactional tasks when needed.

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of AP experience with team leadership responsibilities.
  • Background in AP operations within SAP environments; experience with Ariba and post implementation stabilization is highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage escalations, refine processes, and partner cross functionally.
  • Skilled at documenting workflows and driving operational best practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership capabilities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Work Setup
Hybrid arrangement with onsite presence a couple of days per week preferred.

Contract
Initial 6 month engagement, with potential for extension based on business needs.
