We have partnered with our client in their search for a senior-level Investment Accounting Consultant to provide investment accounting oversight, review support, and knowledge transfer during a critical period of transition. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert focused on statutory investment reporting, Schedule D review, fixed income accounting, NAIC filings, and year-end close activities.

This role is not a day-to-day preparer position. Instead, the consultant will operate as a reviewer and advisor, validating work products, identifying potential reporting issues, strengthening controls, and ensuring continuity of knowledge and operations within the investment accounting function.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and oversee statutory investment accounting and reporting activities.
  • Perform detailed review of Schedule D reporting and related investment disclosures.
  • Review and validate NAIC filings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide guidance on fixed income investment accounting, including valuation, amortization, and reporting considerations.
  • Support year-end close activities related to the investment portfolio.
  • Review investment accounting reconciliations, controls, and reporting processes.
  • Partner with accounting, finance, and investment teams to resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to less experienced team members.
  • Identify process risks, reporting concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and operational continuity ahead of an upcoming retirement.
Required Qualifications
  • 15+ years of insurance investment accounting experience.
  • Strong background in statutory (STAT) reporting.
  • Deep expertise with Schedule D reporting, preferably at a review or approval level.
  • Extensive fixed income accounting experience.
  • Experience reviewing and validating NAIC filings.
  • Prior year-end close support experience within an insurance investment accounting environment.
  • Experience serving as a reviewer, approver, or SME rather than exclusively a preparer.
  • Strong understanding of investment accounting reconciliations, controls, and reporting processes.
  • Proven ability to provide knowledge transfer and operational support during leadership or staffing transitions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Life insurance and retirement industry experience.
  • PAM (Portfolio Accounting Manager) experience.
  • Experience working in large insurance company investment accounting environments.
  • Prior leadership experience at the Senior Manager or Director level.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Senior Manager or Director-level investment accounting professional.
  • Hands-on technical expert capable of rolling up sleeves while remaining focused on review and oversight responsibilities.
  • Comfortable advising teams, challenging assumptions, and identifying reporting risks.
  • Strong collaborator who can effectively partner with accounting, finance, treasury, and investment management stakeholders.
