Overview

This position serves as a key contributor within the organization's emergency readiness and physical protection program. The specialist will help guide the company's preparedness strategy, support the execution of response protocols during real events, and strengthen the organization's ability to manage crises.
The role includes developing and refining training initiatives, coordinating exercises across multiple operating areas, and working closely with various internal groups to ensure the company maintains a high level of readiness.
This position reports to the senior leader responsible for the emergency and security program.


Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with HSE teams, operations groups, communications, and other departments to shape goals and learning strategies relating to emergency preparedness and protective measures.
  • Oversee compliance?driven training programs to ensure regulatory obligations are met and records are maintained properly.
  • Deliver instruction on incident management systems and security procedures.
  • Organize and conduct region?wide audits, drills, tabletop activities, and similar exercises to evaluate preparedness.
  • Capture lessons learned from events, maintain follow?up action tracking, and lead post?event or post?exercise debriefs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with agencies, industry partners, and specialized contractors to strengthen coordination capabilities.
  • Monitor regulatory proposals affecting emergency readiness or security and participate in regulatory comment processes when appropriate.
  • Interpret finalized regulatory updates and support the creation of implementation or compliance plans.
  • Provide training to emergency responders and local authorities on hazards related to pipelines, transportation, and related security scenarios.
  • Participate in due?diligence activities when new assets or projects are being evaluated, with a focus on emergency and security considerations.
  • Conduct assessments related to security vulnerabilities and support related program elements.
  • Coordinate medical monitoring and drug/alcohol program requirements associated with applicable federal safety standards.
  • Maintain working knowledge of relevant U.S. and Canadian regulations across multiple agencies (energy, transportation, environmental, and security sectors).
  • Travel up to roughly one?third of the time; extended deployments may be required during emergency events.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport for U.S.-Canada travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (emergency management, safety sciences, criminal justice, engineering, communications, etc.) preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 7-10 years of related experience in emergency response, crisis management, or security programs.
  • Ability to negotiate, evaluate, and communicate complex issues relating to emergency and security functions.
  • Understanding of safety and regulatory frameworks common to the energy industry.
  • Hands?on experience responding to real emergencies (e.g., fires, spills, medical events, security?related incidents) and coordinating multi?agency exercises or training sessions.
  • Experience developing response plans, communication strategies, or audit programs is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of industry security standards and regulations relevant to pipelines, transportation, and related energy sectors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Incident Command System, including roles and responsibilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work with diverse teams at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency with standard office software applications.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, adaptability, and willingness to support team learning.
  • Must successfully pass background screening and pre?employment testing, including drug and alcohol requirements.
