Senior Accountant (Contract-to-Hire)

Overview
This role is open due to an immediate need for additional accounting support while the organization continues efforts to hire a full?time employee. To accelerate onboarding and maintain continuity, the team is seeking a contract?to?hire Senior Accountant who can step in quickly and manage critical accounting operations. The position will focus on general ledger management, close activities, reconciliations, and process improvement within a higher?education - focused environment.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Experience in nonprofit, higher education, or public accounting (including candidates directly out of public accounting).
• Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.
• Hands-on experience with Colleague or similar ERP systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Background that ensures experience with:
  • General Ledger (GL)
  • Operational and Corporate Accounting
  • Month-end and year-end Close Activities
  • Manual or semi?manual accounting environments
• Nice to have: Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar small-business accounting systems.

Nice-to-Haves

• Higher Education accounting experience (e.g., Grants Accounting).
• Exposure to or capability in technical accounting topics.
• Experience in environments using specialized college/university accounting systems.
