Senior Accountant
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to join their growing finance team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for general accounting functions, month-end close activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting, with a significant focus on inventory accounting and cost accounting. Approximately 60% of the role will support inventory management activities, including inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, and process improvements within a largely manual environment.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a lean accounting organization where they can contribute both strategically and tactically.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Perform inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Monitor inventory transactions and ensure accuracy of inventory records.
- Support and participate in cycle count programs.
- Analyze inventory variances and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Partner with operations and supply chain teams to improve inventory controls and processes.
- Assist with cost accounting activities, including product costing and inventory valuation.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency within existing manual processes.
General Accounting
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve variances.
- Lead and support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reporting.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
- Support audits and provide requested documentation.
- Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong cost accounting experience.
- Proven experience with inventory accounting, including:
- Inventory reconciliations
- Cycle counts
- Inventory management and control processes
- Solid general accounting experience, including:
- Journal entries
- Month-end close
- Account reconciliations
- Financial reporting
- Ability to work independently in a hands-on environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with manual processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), food manufacturing, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Sage ERP.
- CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required.
Team Structure
This role reports to the Controller and works closely with a small, collaborative finance team that includes:
- CFO
- Controller
- Accounts Payable Specialist
This position does not have direct reports.
