Security Architect - Payments Experience

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Security Architect, with Payments Experience.

Must Have Experience

* Experience producing (and guiding teams producing) As‑Is Security Architecture assessments, Target Security Architectures, and High‑Level Security Design Documents and LLD's for major banking change programs.

* Security design experience across REST APIs, Microservices, eventing, batch, integration gateways, and secure data flows within highly regulated payments environments.

* Strong capability to assess solution designs created by Payments Architects, identify security gaps, evaluate risk, and recommend secure design patterns.

* Deep experience with core security standards and mechanisms including OAUTH2, OIDC, SAML2, MTLS/PKI, encryption, tokenisation, HSMs, secrets management, network zoning, and firewall rules.

* Ability to track and manage security design decisions, articulate risk‑based options, and negotiate with Technology, Business and Risk stakeholders.

* Keen to dig into technical details - protocols, data flows, infra, APIs, application behaviours, and implementation constraints.

* Clear verbal and written communication, able to influence teams and stakeholders on secure‑by‑design principles.

Should Have

* Experience working in large banking transformation programs in a Security Architecture role.

* Strong understanding of financial regulatory frameworks such as PSD2/RTS SCA, SWIFT CSP, PCI DSS, EBA guidelines and local regulators.

* Relevant architecture certification (SABSA preferred, TOGAF or equivalent acceptable).

* Experience securing cloud, container, and hybrid platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes, service mesh).

Nice to Have

* Security oversight or design experience on payment engines/platforms (FIS, ACI, Temenos, Finastra etc.).

* Full‑stack or application engineering background prior to moving into Security Architecture.

* Experience defining Infrastructure Security Architectures for high availability, resilience, and operational risk controls (WAF, DDoS, SIEM, logging, monitoring).

* Experience designing secure data architectures, data classifications, key entity protection, and secure migration approaches.

* Exposure to DevSecOps practices, CI/CD security tooling, and software supply chain protections.

* Experience working with central architecture, compliance, and risk teams to align designs to enterprise standards.

* Experience supporting engineering teams ad‑hoc in interpreting and implementing security controls following solution design.
