Overview

We are partnering with a professional services organization supporting a large, complex enterprise undergoing a multi-year finance transformation with our client in Oak Brook, IL, onsite 5 days per week. This highly visible, mission-critical role will work directly with executive leadership, including the Interim CFO, to support a comprehensive financial restatement, SEC remediation efforts, and broader finance control enhancements.

This position is ideal for a seasoned technical accounting professional with prior public company restatement experience who thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure, and ambiguous environments.

Key Responsibilities

Restatement & Technical Accounting

  • Support the end-to-end financial statement restatement process
  • Review and correct transactions that were improperly recognized, unsupported, or misstated
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness of restated financial

Audit & Advisory Coordination

  • Partner with external auditors, forensic accountants, and legal counsel on restatement scope, findings, and resolution
  • Lead coordination of deliverable with external audit firms and internal stakeholders, including executive leadership and audit committees

SEC Reporting & Compliance

  • Manage preparation and filing of restated quarterly reports (10-Qs) and delayed annual filings (10-K)
  • Draft and/or review MD&A disclosures, restatement footnotes, and supporting documentation
  • Own responses to SEC comment letters and support ongoing regulatory communications

Controls & Remediation

  • Support remediation of material weaknesses and enhance SOX control environments
  • Contribute to broader finance transformation and process improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • CPA required; Big 4 public accounting background strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, or audit
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading a public company restatement
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, including revenue recognition, accrual accounting, and complex cost structures
  • Proven success in remediating control deficiencies and strengthening SOX compliance frameworks
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Ability to quickly ramp up and operate effectively in an interim, high-demand environment
