Project Manager - Business Transformation

Contract Type: Interim Contract
Location: Bristol - Hybrid
Security Clearance: SC clearance required
Project Focus: Risk, Resilience and Business Transformation

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with strong business change and transformation experience to join a public sector organisation on a contract basis.

The role will support the delivery of a strategic risk and resilience initiative, focused on improving how supply chain resilience is defined, measured and embedded across the organisation. The project aims to move towards a more proactive approach to risk management, strengthening resilience through improved measurement, scenario testing, policy review and implementation planning.

You will take ownership of day-to-day project delivery, coordinating multiple stakeholders and workstreams to ensure key deliverables are completed within agreed timescales. Working closely with senior business stakeholders, subject matter experts, external partners and policy teams, you will translate analytical findings and strategic recommendations into practical delivery plans, governance processes and sustainable business change.

This is an excellent opportunity for a delivery-focused Project Manager who can combine strong project controls with stakeholder engagement, business change planning and the ability to drive complex initiatives forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an integrated project plan covering mobilisation, delivery milestones, dependencies, implementation planning and handover.
  • Manage core project controls, including RAID logs, action trackers, decision logs, dependency maps, delivery schedules and governance reporting.
  • Coordinate delivery across multiple workstreams, ensuring project outputs are delivered to the required quality and within agreed timelines.
  • Support the development of resilience definitions, measurement frameworks, metrics and methodologies.
  • Coordinate scenario testing activities, ensuring assumptions, data requirements, findings, limitations and recommendations are documented clearly.
  • Work with policy, commercial and business stakeholders to identify gaps, implementation considerations and opportunities to improve organisational resilience.
  • Support business change planning, including stakeholder impact assessments, adoption risks, ownership requirements, communications and transition activities.
  • Translate project findings and recommendations into actionable implementation plans, roadmaps and handover materials.
  • Prepare clear, concise updates for senior stakeholders and governance forums, highlighting progress, risks, issues, dependencies and decisions required.
  • Identify and escalate delivery risks early, developing practical solutions to maintain progress and minimise disruption.
  • Coordinate input from internal teams, subject matter experts, external partners and other delivery stakeholders.
  • Support the transition from project delivery into implementation, including ownership arrangements, residual risks, lessons learned and ongoing governance.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Project Manager within complex business change, transformation, policy, commercial or programme environments.
  • Demonstrable experience managing projects throughout the delivery lifecycle, from mobilisation and initiation through to implementation planning, transition and handover.
  • Strong project planning and delivery skills, including the management of milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, assumptions, actions and decisions.
  • Practical experience supporting business change initiatives, including stakeholder readiness, adoption planning, communications, transition planning or embedding new ways of working.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, subject matter experts, suppliers and workstreams to deliver agreed outcomes.
  • Experience preparing governance packs, senior stakeholder updates and decision-ready reporting.
  • Ability to translate complex analytical, technical or policy-related information into practical plans, recommendations and delivery products.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at different levels.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain delivery momentum and work to challenging deadlines.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint, alongside project planning and reporting tools.
