Private Family Educator

The Opportunity
A Dallas family with four children ranging from Elementary to High School, is seeking an exceptional educator to join the household as a Private Family Educator.
This is a professional, education-focused position designed for an experienced teacher who enjoys working closely with children but is interested in moving beyond the traditional classroom environment. The Private Family Educator will provide individualized academic support, educational enrichment, mentoring, and coordination across the family's four children.
The family places a high value on education, intellectual curiosity, character development, and providing children with opportunities to explore their individual interests and abilities.
This is not a nanny or household-management position. The household has substantial existing support, including a nanny who handles much of the children's transportation and supervision, as well as a housekeeper, family shopper, cook, and other household resources.
The Private Family Educator's primary responsibility is to help each child learn, develop, stay organized, and thrive academically and intellectually.
The position will initially be structured as contract-to-hire, providing both the educator and family an opportunity to ensure a strong long-term fit.

Primary Responsibilities
Individualized Academic Support
Provide age-appropriate academic support to four children ranging from elementary through high school.
Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with homework and school assignments
• Providing individualized instruction when a child needs additional explanation or practice
• Supporting writing, reading comprehension, mathematics, science, and other core subjects
• Helping children prepare for tests, projects, and presentations
• Identifying academic strengths, weaknesses, and potential learning gaps
• Developing individualized strategies to address areas needing improvement
• Helping advanced students pursue subjects beyond their normal curriculum
• Coordinating specialized outside tutoring when a subject requires expertise beyond the educator's own background

The objective is not to complete work for the children, but to help them become increasingly capable, confident, curious, and independent learners.

Academic Organization & Executive-Function Development
Help each child develop strong organizational and study habits appropriate for his or her age.
This may include:

• Monitoring major assignments, projects, tests, and deadlines
• Helping children plan longer-term projects
• Teaching effective study techniques
• Establishing productive homework routines
• Developing time-management and organizational skills
• Helping older children learn to manage competing academic and extracurricular commitments independently

The educator should gradually transfer responsibility to the children as they mature rather than creating dependence on adult supervision.

School & Educational Coordination
Serve as an additional educational resource for the parents.
Responsibilities may include:

• Reviewing grades, teacher feedback, and academic progress
• Helping parents identify emerging academic issues
• Communicating with teachers when requested by the parents
• Participating in occasional parent-teacher conferences or educational meetings
• Helping evaluate tutoring, enrichment, summer programs, camps, and other educational opportunities
• Coordinating outside tutors or educational specialists when appropriate

The Private Family Educator should be capable of providing parents with a thoughtful, concise assessment of how each child is progressing.

Intellectual Enrichment
Education within the family should extend beyond homework and grades.
The educator will help create opportunities that develop intellectual curiosity and expose the children to subjects and experiences beyond their formal school curriculum.
Examples might include:

• Reading programs and book discussions
• Science experiments and projects
• Museum visits
• Historical and cultural activities
• Writing and research projects
• Educational games and competitions
• Financial literacy and practical mathematics
• Geography and world affairs
• Art, music, architecture, and cultural exploration
• Technology, coding, engineering, or other STEM activities
• Age-appropriate independent projects based on each child's interests

The educator will have considerable latitude to propose creative activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required
• Master's degree in education or relevant academic discipline preferred
• Approximately 5-10+ years of successful classroom teaching experience
• Experience at a highly regarded public, private, independent, or college-preparatory school preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work with children across different ages
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong academic foundation across multiple subjects
• Ability to recognize when specialized outside expertise is appropriate
• Comfortable communicating with teachers, tutors, parents, and other professionals
• Valid driver's license and safe driving history
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally on an occasional basis
