Product Owner (Contract) - AI RegTech

Location: UK or Europe (remote-friendly, workable time zone) ·
Engagement: Day/Hour rate, outside IR35 for UK (3m rolling contract)

About the client An AI-native RegTech scale-up (London HQ) building a GenAI-powered regulatory change management platform for banks and FinTechs. It turns regulatory publications into structured obligations, assesses their impact against internal policies and controls, coordinates remediation, and answers compliance questions through an interactive AI assistant.

The role A hands-on Product Owner who takes a rough idea or a customer conversation, understands it deeply, and turns it into detailed, validated requirements the team can build with confidence. You'll steer the product across all four pillars (regulatory intelligence, policy and control impact analysis, compliance workflow, and the interactive AI assistant), not just write stories to order. You'll work closely with the founder and pair with a Technical Lead.

What you'll do

• Own the product (or a defined pillar) end to end, from concept down to the detail where quality is usually lost.
• Turn conversations and ideas into well-formed, detailed user stories and requirements.
• Validate directly with customers (CCOs, General Counsels, Heads of Regulatory Change, risk teams) and translate their world into a modern product.
• Shape how obligations, applicability scoring and the review workflow behave, balancing AI automation with human validation and explainability.
• Dig into logs and product data to understand real usage and act on it.
• Assess what exists today and drive it from good to great, keeping to a clarity-over-feature-bloat philosophy.

What you'll bring

• Senior product owner who owns outcomes
• Technical/engineering background in a prior life; genuinely understands data models and how things are built.
• Proven success in a startup environment; fluent in agile and the true remit of a product person.
• Modern, AI-literate outlook; comfortable shaping LLM-assisted features responsibly (governance, explainability, human-in-the-loop).
• Strong ownership and sound judgement; a proactive doer with real substance.

Strongly preferred

• First-hand exposure to how compliance or regulatory-change teams work (ideally from inside a team).
• FinTech startup background that has touched regulation or compliance.
