POWER BI DATA ENGINEER
Our client is seeking an experienced PowerBI Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions. This role is responsible for translating complex business requirements into scalable data models, governed semantic layers and high-quality dashboards and paginated reports that support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Power BI, DAX, SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and modern data integration practices, with the ability to work across business, architecture, and engineering teams to deliver secure, performant, and user-focused reporting solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design, development, deployment, and support of enterprise Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, and paginated reports.
  • Translate business and reporting requirements into scalable technical solutions by partnering with business users, report developers, architects, and data engineering teams.
  • Design and optimize semantic models using dimensional modeling and star schema best practices to support reusable, governed analytics.
  • Develop advanced DAX calculations, measures, KPIs, and time intelligence logic to meet complex reporting and analytical requirements.
  • Build and optimize Power Query transformations, dataflows, and ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, SQL, and related technologies.
  • Integrate and validate data from multiple enterprise sources, including ERP platforms, Snowflake, legacy extracts, APIs, and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and timeliness across reporting solutions through profiling, reconciliation, testing, and business validation.
  • Improve report and model performance using best practices such as query tuning, incremental refresh, aggregations, efficient relationships, and scalable dataset design.
  • Administer and support Power BI Service capabilities including workspaces, gateways, refresh schedules, deployment pipelines, access control, and release management.
  • Implement and maintain data security and governance standards, including row-level security, role-based access, certification, and documentation of reporting assets.
  • Drive user acceptance testing, production rollout, and post-deployment support to ensure reporting solutions meet business expectations and operational standards.
  • Create technical documentation, data mappings, support materials, and development standards to improve maintainability and knowledge transfer.
  • Mentor team members, promote reporting best practices, and provide technical leadership for complex analytics and reporting initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Data Engineer handling the design and delivery of Power BI reporting solutions, with demonstrated success in senior or lead-level analytics engineering, BI development, or reporting engineering roles.
  • Deep expertise in DAX, semantic modeling, and building complex Power BI dashboards, reports, and paginated reports.
  • Strong ability to translate business requirements into scalable reporting solutions by identifying source data, partnering with users and architects, and validating final deliverables.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Power Query, and enterprise data sources including ERP platforms and Snowflake.
  • Advanced expertise in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including dashboard development, report publishing, workspace management, sharing, and support.
  • Deep experience with DAX, semantic modeling, calculated measures, and performance tuning for large and complex datasets.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with Power Query (M), Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and modern data pipeline orchestration.
  • Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling, star schema design, and enterprise reporting architecture.
  • Experience implementing row-level security, role-based access, and reporting governance standards.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple platforms such as ERP systems, Snowflake, relational databases, cloud services, and legacy data sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, lead discovery discussions, and translate business needs into clear technical specifications and deliverables.
  • Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of Fabric workspace administration, gateway management, and deployment pipelines preferred.
  • Experience working in environments that combine legacy reporting assets, cloud data platforms, and business-led reporting needs.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications such as PL-300 or Fabric/Azure data certifications a plus.
