JOB SUMMARY:

The primary role of this position will be managing all activities related to processing payroll for a multi-jurisdictional public company. Candidate must be able to perform and supervise all activities necessary to process payroll on a timely and accurate basis. The position will also be expected to perform a limited variety of accounting and/or administrative tasks. This is a fast-paced environment and the job will require a strong work ethic, constant attention to detail and deadlines and the ability to learn quickly. A positive attitude will be constantly required while leading the success of the team by example.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll Processing: 90% of position responsibility

· Responsible for all activities necessary to process payroll on a semi-monthly basis, including maintaining related records, filing tax and voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments, preparing accounting transactions and auditable support, documenting and updating procedures and preparing special reports for senior management.

· Develops and controls all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives, including dealings with auditors and state and federal agencies.

· Maintains vacation, service award, holiday, bonus hour and sick leave reports.

· Ensures employee transactions related to stock compensation and purchases are accurately reflected in W-2 wages and accounting reports. Completes tax withholding analysis and works in partnership with the stock administrator.

· Duties may include auditing and reconciling accounting records, preparation of periodic bank and insurance reports, internal control development and documentation.

· Supervises and mentor’s payroll staff. Ensures training and documentation is in place for all payroll processes and responsible for ensuring designated backups are identified and trained.

· Coordinates and collaborates with Human Resources on new policies and amendments to existing policies that affect employees’ compensation and benefits.

· Responsible for staying abreast of all payroll laws and payroll tax regulations as well as continuous improvement of processes and detection and remediation of any process defects.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

· Coordinates with Accounting for financial reporting, auditing and general ledger purposes.

· Acts as payroll lead in system implementations and updates as the need arises.

 

OTHER DUTIES ASSIGNED:

10% of position responsibility

· Performs a variety of accounting and/or clerical tasks involving the preparation and maintenance of financial and related records.

· Researches and produces ad hoc reports and data as necessary.

· Position may require limited overnight travel.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum 5 years of Payroll experience required

·  ADP software experience required

· Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation required

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred

· Previous Accounting experience preferred

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Excellent customer service skills and professionalism including patience, ability to listen and follow up effectively with all staffing levels.

· Consistently displays great attention to detail and organization.

· Can work well under pressure and tight deadlines.

· Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and electronic.

· Ability to understand regulatory requirements as it relates to payroll related topics.

· Demonstrated abilities to research complex problems, find and implement successful solutions. Understanding of appropriate escalation of problems as they arise.

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

· Advanced ability with Internet and E-mail software.

· Intermediate ability with Microsoft Excel and Word.

· Experience with ADP and Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) software preferred.

· Demonstrated values and beliefs consistent with the Company’s culture. Must display the desire and ability to conduct oneself in a manner consistent with the companies Corporation Code of Business Conduct and Promise & Creed.

· Previous accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred. General understanding of basic accounting concepts required.

· Self starter who is intent of providing the highest level of customer service to companies employees.

· Ability to maintain and keep confidential information safe while ensuring it is shared only with parties that require having the information.
