MIDWEST TERRITORY SALES MANAGER
Our client is the global manufacturer of packaging for the meat industry.
The candidate will have either plastics or packaging industry experience previously and reside in the mid-western states. While there are active accounts in the territory, the candidate should be a farmer and a HUNTER.
Job Purpose
Maintain a sales territory that achieves budgeted sales objectives and goals. Develop and maintain working relationships with a broad range of key contacts at assigned customers.
Key Result Areas
- Build and maintain a sales territory that ensures budgeted sales objectives are either met or exceeded.
- Be proactive in the demand forecasting keeping accurate and reliable data in our internal systems.
- Increase sales within assigned geographic territory by increasing volume at existing customers, increasing scope of products used at existing customers, contacting and developing new commercial relationships and by transitioning customers using competitors’ products to the companies.
- Document and validate the organization's value-added components.
- Resolve customer problems and concerns through proactive personal efforts. Develop effective plans to resolve customer problems by effective utilization of internal resources.
- Collects information on product performance, market trends, and competitive developments. Prepares reports to keep organization informed.
- Maintains knowledge of product profitability and specific product emphasis.
Skill and Competencies Required
Knowledge & Skills
- Business – Will require thorough in-depth knowledge of the commercial organization and its capabilities in order to understand how The company may best serve the interests of its customers. Will require general knowledge of the Company's customers and competitors.
- Functional – Will require sound practical understanding of the commercial relationships and practices of the sales function.
- Knowledge and experience – 5-7 years solid experience working in the food packaging industry or in plastics packaging.
- Educational training required – undergraduate degree preferred but not required.
- Required Competencies (select 6 max) (Leadership/Flexibility/Teamwork/Commitment to organizational values/Innovation/Customer orientation/resource management and planning) – Must be an excellent team player who is a self-starter. Incumbent must be highly motivated and be an affirmative advocate for our customers.
- Core competencies required in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office. Other computer programs and software experience helpful.
People Responsibilities
- Will have no direct responsibility for managing people but may offer leadership in work activities to staff related to account activities, including field technical service and customer service.

Freedom to Act
Will have shared responsibility when making decisions in a cross functional environment in areas affecting account activities. Unusual or business-critical decisions impacting the wider business will normally be referred to the Director of USA Sales, Regional Sales Manager and/or the Sr. V.P & G.M. U.S. Sales.
Complexity
Will use judgment when selecting appropriate alternatives from defined options, using standard and well-practiced solutions.
Impact on Business Results
Will have a direct impact on overall business through the achievement of budgeted sales targets.
Involvement in Business Planning/ Budget
- Will have shared responsibility for business planning through participation in the budgeting process by providing short and long term sales forecasts for assigned accounts in terms of volume. Will have responsibility for managing costs within budgets for assigned territory.

Will have well-developed communication and diplomacy skills to maintain frequent and effective communication with sales and service organization and to provide clear and accurate instructions, when necessary.
Physical requirements
Must be able to travel drive long distances (car or plane). Additionally, must be able to walk in and around customer’s facilities and perform normal office duties.

Incumbent will be required to be in a variety of work environments both internally and at customer’s facilities. Incumbent must follow all safety regulations at all facilities and wear all proper safety equipment.
