Title: Marketing Communications Specialist

Reports to: Director of Marketing

Location: Arlington, VA

Our client is a nonprofit veteran service organization providing life insurance and annuity products to support military families.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The primary role for this position is to create and edit marketing and communications content for internal communications as well as online and in print; content is a very important and highly visible part of our business. This position will help execute a strategy that fills the internal and external content needs of our client.
  • Work directly with internal department heads and stakeholders, as well as our ad agency
  • Create and edit internal and external marketing and communications content (website copy, blog posts, emails, direct mail, newsletters, reports/documents and social posts)
  • Maintain and update internal and external marketing communications plans and activities; report on results
  • Build editorial calendar around topics/themes relevant to the insurance industry and military community
  • Research and write short and long form content such as case studies, blogs, newsletters, emails, and social posts
  • Understand Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and methods to track Return on Investment (ROI) for all channels
  • Read a variety of articles and papers and synthesize the content to succinct and readable bytes to communicate to both members and management, as needed
  • Development of editorial governance so content is consistent with our brand voice, style and tone
  • Prepare presentations on program tactics and results for senior management
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment to ensure consistency across initiatives
  • Research industry relevant content; stay abreast of changes in the multi-media marketing environment to best serve the objectives of the organization and recommend strategic plan adjustments accordingly

Qualifications/Characteristics:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing Communications with at least 5 years of Marketing Communications experience, knowledge of financial services preferred
  • Have 6 months plus of technical experience in using Content Management Systems (CMS) to publish content online
  • Content marketing experience in utilizing vehicles such as blogs, social platforms, and email is critical
  • Knowledge of military and government benefits preferred
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication, editing and proofreading skills, along with knowledge of desktop publishing programs and website management
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and AdWords, WordPress or other website CMS experience, Salesforce, Google Drive, Basecamp, JIRA/Confluence or other collaboration tools, a definite plus
  • The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills and excellent attention to detail with the ability to effectively solve problems; have proven ability to balance multiple projects and successfully meet deadlines; strong organizational abilities, detail-oriented with critical reasoning skills
