Responsible for preparation of sales tax returns for multiple states and entities, prepare Canadian GST return, review and maintain customer resale and exemption documentation, manage sales and use tax audits, file and maintain annual business licenses, internal/external resource for transaction tax questions, assist with special projects as needed. May also provide assistance with state and local income and franchise tax returns
Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and process sales and use tax returns for multiple states and entities.
Manage Vertex L-Series tax tables.
Respond to correspondence with state and local taxing authorities.
Maintain customer resale/exemption documentation.
Prepare and process Canadian GST / PST / HST.
Maintain business licenses (Sales Tax exemption certificates).
Analyze customer transactions as they relate to sales tax.
Reconcile tax general ledger accounts monthly.
Manage sales and use tax audits (Particularly TX and LA).
Research sales and use tax laws as needed.
Prepare revenue by source report.
Manage property tax filings.
Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree. CPA preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of sales and use tax experience.
Other Required Skill, Knowledge or Abilities: Experience in multi-state return compliance. Strong analytical, research, and writing skills. Proficient using Microsoft Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, etc…).
Proficient in Vertex Returns and Vertex L Series software . Working knowledge in state and local sales and use tax compliance procedures.
Interpersonal Communications: Ensures that business initiatives and goals are effectively communicated to employees. Demonstrates objective listening on a consistent basis and creates and maintains an environment that encourages open communication.
Coaches and counsels assigned staff to adhere to values, policies and standards and to improve safety, quality and process reliability in a cost effective manner. Interfaces daily with other functional areas. May communicate with internal and external auditors.
