Position Summary:
The Senior Litigation Paralegal provides comprehensive support to attorneys specializing in commercial and intellectual property (IP) litigation. This role involves managing complex cases, overseeing the discovery process, and assisting with trial preparation. With 5+ years of experience, the paralegal will play a key role in case management, legal research, and document preparation, with a focus on delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys with all aspects of commercial and intellectual property litigation, including drafting and reviewing pleadings, motions, and legal correspondence.
  • Manage large volumes of case files, ensuring proper organization and accessibility of litigation documents, patents, trademarks, copyrights, and other IP materials.
  • Conduct thorough legal research on commercial law, patent law, trademark disputes, and other intellectual property issues using legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
  • Prepare and manage discovery, including document requests, interrogatories, depositions, and subpoenas, ensuring compliance with discovery deadlines.
  • Review, organize, and produce documents related to intellectual property portfolios, including licenses, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Assist with e-discovery processes, including managing data collections, organizing document production, and preparing documents for litigation holds.
  • Support attorneys in the preparation of depositions, hearings, and trials, including preparing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders.
  • Assist in drafting settlement agreements and preparing appellate briefs, as well as post-judgment enforcement of intellectual property rulings.
  • Coordinate with clients, outside counsel, court personnel, and expert witnesses as necessary, especially in high-stakes commercial and IP cases.
  • File legal documents with courts and ensure timely submission in both state and federal court systems, as well as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor case dockets and deadlines, ensuring attorneys are informed of upcoming deadlines, filings, and hearings.
  • Prepare patent, copyright, and trademark prosecution documents, and assist with portfolio management for intellectual property assets.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal, with a strong background in commercial litigation or intellectual property law.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal terminology, intellectual property regulations, and commercial litigation procedures.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex cases and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clear and concise legal writing.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a legal team.
  • Familiarity with federal and state court systems and e-filing procedures, including the USPTO’s filing systems.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with e-discovery software and litigation support technology.
  • Knowledge of patent prosecution, trademark opposition, or copyright litigation processes.
  • Experience managing IP litigation for high-profile clients, including cases involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Proficiency in docketing software and managing large-scale intellectual property portfolios.

Title - Litigation Paralegal (IP)

Location - New York or Miami

Client Industry - Intellectual Property

Compensation - $45 to $55 per hour
