Operational & Industrial Technology Consultant (Interim)
Location: Dallas, TX (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)
Travel: Frequent travel to project sites, including extended time supporting site build-outs and commissioning activities

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Operational & Industrial Technology Consultant to lead the design, implementation, and operational readiness of industrial technology (OT) environments supporting large-scale infrastructure and mission-critical facilities. This individual will serve as the primary technology lead for site operations, overseeing OT architecture and ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable systems that support facility operations from construction through commissioning and into steady-state operations.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership experience and has successfully built or matured OT capabilities within capital-intensive industries such as energy, utilities, industrial infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, or data center environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of Operational Technology (OT) architecture supporting critical infrastructure operations.
- Develop standards and governance for industrial control systems, industrial networking, site telemetry, and operational monitoring.
- Serve as the primary technology advisor during facility construction, commissioning, and operational turnover.
- Partner with engineering, construction, operations, and technology stakeholders to integrate OT systems into the broader technology ecosystem.
- Design and oversee SCADA, PLC, DCS, telemetry, historian, and edge computing environments.
- Establish OT cybersecurity controls, including network segmentation, secure remote access, monitoring, identity management, and vendor connectivity.
- Drive IT/OT convergence initiatives while maintaining the unique security, safety, and availability requirements of industrial environments.
- Develop technology roadmaps, operational procedures, and support models for newly built facilities.
- Manage relationships with equipment manufacturers, integration partners, construction firms, utilities, and technology vendors.
- Support the deployment and integration of:
- Industrial control systems
- Electric metering platforms
- Access control and site security systems
- Industrial networking infrastructure
- Monitoring and telemetry solutions
- Provide technical leadership during testing, commissioning, and operational readiness reviews.
- Create documentation, standards, and architecture artifacts to support long-term operations.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Operational Technology (OT), Industrial Technology, Industrial Controls, or related infrastructure environments.
- Strong experience designing and supporting:
- PLC systems
- SCADA platforms
- DCS environments
- Industrial networking
- Telemetry systems
- Historians and operational data platforms
- Experience with power generation, electrical infrastructure, substations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), critical infrastructure, or similar industrial environments.
- Deep understanding of OT cybersecurity principles and architecture.
- Experience implementing network segmentation, secure remote access, monitoring, and third-party connectivity controls.
- Familiarity with:
- NIST Cybersecurity Framework
- ISA/IEC 62443
- Critical infrastructure cybersecurity practices
- Experience supporting projects from engineering and construction through commissioning and operational handoff.
- Ability to operate as both a hands-on architect and strategic technology leader.
- Strong vendor management and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale facility deployments, mission-critical environments, or infrastructure build-outs.
- Background in energy, utilities, industrial construction, manufacturing, data centers, or other capital-intensive industries.
- Experience building technology organizations and operational processes within growing or rapidly evolving companies.
- Understanding of facility operations, industrial automation, and operational excellence frameworks.
- Experience leading technology initiatives in startup, scale-up, or transforming organizations.
