Our client is a leader within their industry located here in Chicago. They design and manufacture their products using the most advanced equipment and processes. Due to growth and continued expansion, we are partnering with them on a Lead Mechanical Engineer (Custom Design) opening for their location near Midway Airport.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer (Custom Design) is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team in the design, implementation, and launch of lighting products. This person is also responsible for providing mentorship and training to Engineers and Technicians on the team and within the manufacturing facility.

Lead Mechanical Engineer (Custom Design) Responsibilities

  • The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for bringing new products to market and improving existing products.
  • Partner with customers, Production, Quality, and other Engineering departments on modifying custom projects to change the design, dimensions, or materials to meet new specifications. This includes establishing timeline commitments for project completion.
  • Own the project deliverables including design, production documentation, and cost models.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize projects based on cost, timeline, and ROI.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and manage those projects to completion.
  • Coach and mentor the Mechanical Engineering team.

Lead Mechanical Engineer (Custom Design) Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited school.
  • At least five (5) or more years in product development.
  • 3D CAD experience is required. Solidworks experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience providing training and mentoring to Engineers.
