Title: Lead IT Engineer
Location: Bloomington, IN
Client Industry: Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
Compensation: $50 - $70/hr.
We have partnered with our client in their search for a Lead IT Engineer. The Lead IT Engineer provides senior technical leadership for infrastructure across servers, cloud, networking, storage, telephony, endpoints, and collaboration tools in a regulated manufacturing environment. The role partners with information technology leadership, Operational Technology (OT), lab systems, Quality/Compliance, business analysts, offshore support teams, and external vendors to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable services. Success is measured by infrastructure stability, effective major incident and change management, compliant support of validated and non-validated systems, and strong mentoring in a role intended to grow into future people leadership.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the highest-level escalation point for complex infrastructure issues, major incidents, and vendor escalations, using ServiceNow to manage incidents, requests, and changes within service-level agreements (SLAs)
- Lead major incident response through resolution, communication, root-cause analysis, and follow-up actions
- Architect roadmaps for on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure, and evaluate technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN), containerization, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Govern infrastructure processes including incident, request, enhancement, release, change, knowledge, and CMDB management in line with ITIL service management practices, GMP, and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements
- Oversee monitoring, alerting, patching, backup/recovery, capacity planning, and business continuity/disaster recovery (BCP/DR) testing across validated and non-validated systems
- Partner with OT, lab systems, business analysts, offshore support teams, and vendors to deliver integrated solutions for manufacturing operations and critical applications
- Strengthen security through firewall management, network segmentation, vulnerability remediation, Zero Trust controls, SSO, and MFA in partnership with Information Security
- Manage collaboration and communication platforms including Cisco telephony, Microsoft Teams, conference room technology, multi-function printers, and secure print services
- Mentor senior engineers, maintain documentation and knowledge-sharing standards, and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards for senior leadership
Skills Required
- Expert knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Hyper-V, and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
- Strong networking experience across Cisco and Ubiquiti switching/wireless, Fortinet firewalls, network segmentation, and wide area connectivity
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), AWS, and hybrid infrastructure design
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, SAN/NAS storage, Veeam backup and recovery, and enterprise collaboration platforms including Cisco telephony and Microsoft Teams
- Proficiency with ServiceNow or similar platforms, including dashboards, automation, change control, service-level management, and CMDB upkeep
- Ability to support validated and non-validated environments with strong understanding of GMP and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements
- Experience securing infrastructure through vulnerability management, SSO, MFA, Zero Trust, and recovery planning
- Ability to lead major incidents, prioritize competing issues, and make sound technical decisions under pressure
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical issues for plant stakeholders, senior leaders, vendors, and offshore teams
- Demonstrated capability to mentor engineers, promote documentation standards, and drive continuous improvement across infrastructure operations
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience, including 2+ years in senior engineering or technical leadership roles
- Experience in regulated pharmaceutical or manufacturing environments preferred
- Availability for a 24/7 on-call rotation and willingness to work onsite in Bloomington, Indiana with occasional travel to other sites or data centers
