Interim IT Leader (Contract)

Location: Eden Prairie, MN (Onsite 5 Days per Week)
Duration: 3-Month Engagement

About the Opportunity

A growing medical device company is seeking a highly experienced Interim IT Leader to provide immediate leadership and execution across technology, business systems, and organizational initiatives. This is a hands-on leadership role designed for an individual who thrives in small-company environments and can quickly assess, prioritize, and drive results.

The most critical responsibility will be taking ownership of an ongoing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) ERP implementation, currently approximately 80% complete. The successful candidate will rapidly establish credibility with business leaders, the implementation partner, and the IT team to ensure a successful go-live and long-term adoption.

This role requires an experienced IT executive who can balance strategy with execution, evaluate the current technology landscape, identify risks and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations that support business growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

ERP Delivery Leadership (Immediate Priority)

  • Serve as the delivery lead for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central implementation.
  • Quickly gain command of project requirements, business processes, implementation milestones, risks, and dependencies.
  • Partner closely with the Systems Integrator (Velosio), business stakeholders, and internal project team to drive execution.
  • Facilitate issue resolution, decision-making, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Establish clear project governance, status reporting, accountability, and delivery metrics.
  • Support organizational readiness, training, adoption, and change management efforts.
  • Ensure the ERP implementation remains on track toward planned go-live objectives.

IT Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop a team consisting of a:
    • Desktop Support Analyst
    • Project Manager
    • Data Analyst
  • Establish clear goals, priorities, and accountability measures.
  • Build trust through transparent communication and consistent delivery.
  • Serve as a strategic technology advisor to executive leadership.

Technology & Application Assessment

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current IT environment, including infrastructure, applications, data, and security.
  • Review all licensed software and business applications.
  • Identify redundant systems, integration gaps, underutilized technology, and cost optimization opportunities.
  • Develop recommendations to streamline and modernize the application portfolio.

Business Stakeholder Engagement

  • Meet with leaders across all business functions to understand operational challenges and technology needs.
  • Evaluate how technology is enabling or constraining business processes.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable technology recommendations.
  • Strengthen alignment between IT and business objectives.

Infrastructure & Future-State Planning

  • Assess current infrastructure architecture, scalability, and performance.
  • Define a future-state technology roadmap aligned with company objectives.
  • Develop recommendations for modernization initiatives, investment priorities, and improvement opportunities.
  • Establish business cases, timelines, and ROI analyses for key technology investments.

Governance, Security & Risk Management

  • Conduct vulnerability and risk assessments across systems, infrastructure, and applications.
  • Evaluate security posture and compliance readiness within a regulated medical device environment.
  • Partner with Arctic Wolf and other vendors as needed to identify and prioritize remediation efforts.
  • Deliver risk mitigation strategies and governance recommendations.

Organizational Effectiveness

  • Identify process improvement opportunities across departments.
  • Improve workflows, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency through technology.
  • Recommend enhancements that increase productivity and support future growth.

IT Organizational Assessment

  • Evaluate team structure, responsibilities, skills, capacity, and development opportunities.
  • Assess current and future technology staffing needs.
  • Present recommendations to executive leadership regarding organizational design, talent gaps, and long-term IT capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including Director, VP, Head of IT, or equivalent leadership roles.
  • Prior experience leading IT for a small to mid-sized organization.
  • Medical device, healthcare technology, life sciences, or regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven success delivering enterprise business system implementations, particularly ERP platforms.
  • Experience managing third-party implementation partners, vendors, and consulting organizations.
  • Strong background in infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, governance, and business systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly assess complex situations and deliver immediate business value.
  • Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, and change leadership skills.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining highly hands-on.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central implementation leadership experience.
  • Experience working with:
    • Dynamics CRM
    • Power BI
    • SQL Server
  • Experience supporting organizational transformation and change management initiatives.
  • Background conducting IT assessments, application rationalization exercises, and technology roadmap development.
  • Experience within manufacturing, medical device, or regulated environments.
