Fractional International Tax Consultant

Position Overview

The company is seeking a Fractional International Tax Consultant to provide specialized expertise in global tax matters, with a strong emphasis on VAT and Swiss operations. This role will serve as a key advisor to the internal tax function, supporting strategic decision-making and ongoing international tax compliance efforts.

This is a high-impact, hands-on advisory role ideal for someone who can flex capacity month-to-month and bring deep subject matter expertise in international tax structures within a biotech or similarly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise on international tax matters, including cross-border transactions and compliance
  • Lead and advise on VAT-related issues, with a strong focus on Swiss VAT and operations
  • Evaluate and recommend tax-efficient structures and approaches for international activities
  • Support tax implications related to global expansion, operations, and supply chain activities
  • Partner closely with internal finance and accounting teams to address tax-related questions and challenges
  • Assist with periodic tax reporting, planning, and compliance requirements
  • Act as an advisor on tax risks, regulatory considerations, and operational decisions
  • Flex workload based on monthly business needs, ramping up during critical reporting periods

Required Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in International Tax, including cross-border considerations
  • Strong, hands-on experience with VAT (Value-Added Tax)
  • Direct experience supporting or advising on Swiss operations and related tax structures
  • Background in biotech, pharma, medical device, or related life sciences industry strongly preferred
  • Ability to operate independently in a fractional, advisory capacity within a lean environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset

Technical Environment

  • Experience working withERP systems such as:
    • NetSuite (current)
    • SAP (future-state / in transition)

Team Structure

  • Reports into the internal tax leadership function
  • Lean team environment with collaboration across finance and use of external advisors
  • No direct reports; this is an individual contributor consulting role

  • Senior-level tax professional or consultant with deep specialization in international tax and VAT
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and advising in a growing, evolving organization
  • Proven ability to balance strategic guidance with hands-on execution
