Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Location: Chicago, IL
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Month-End Closing
- Prepares and enters journal entries as required
- Prepares account reconciliations
- Prepares account analysis for various general ledger accounts
- Payroll
- Prepares payroll for staff and faculty members
- Investment Earnings
- Calculates monthly investment earnings
- General Accounting
- Reviews petty cash monthly for reimbursement and department charges
- Supports the Vice President Finance and the Controller in ensuring an accurate and timely year end audit
- Assists in development and implementation of new processes to enhance workflow and efficiency of the Finance department
- Performs other duties as assigned by the VP and Controller
- Other Related Duties – Serves as a back-up for the following functions
- Accounts payable processing
- Assists students with student account inquiries and payments
- Assists students, faculty and other staff members with check cashing and petty cash
- Removes cash from copy machines on a regular basis
- Orders office supplies for the business office
- Purchases postage via electronic means and addresses postage machine issues
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Required:
- Experience:
- Accounting: 4-6 years of progressive experience
- Proficient in payroll processing through an automated system
- Proficient in month-end closing procedures
- Proficient in account reconciliations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Higher education experience is considered a plus
- Experience with student billing software systems is considered a plus
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA is considered a plus
- Systems: Experience with automated accounting systems. Experience with accounting system implementation and integration is considered a plus
