Senior AWS / Terraform Cloud Engineer
Location: Jersey City, NJ
Experience: 5-7+ years
Work Model: Hybrid, currently 3 days onsite per week
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS / Terraform Cloud Engineer to join a cloud infrastructure engineering team responsible for designing and developing reusable infrastructure capabilities for application teams across the organization.
This is a hands-on cloud engineering position combining AWS infrastructure engineering, Terraform development, cloud architecture, and technical solutioning.
The engineer will work directly with internal stakeholders to understand infrastructure requirements, determine the appropriate cloud architecture, and develop scalable Terraform solutions that can be consumed across multiple application teams.
A major focus of the position is building reusable Terraform modules from the ground up across AWS networking, compute, storage, monitoring, and connectivity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, and enhance reusable Terraform modules for AWS infrastructure.
• Build Terraform modules and infrastructure capabilities from the ground up.
• Develop solutions that can be consumed by multiple application and engineering teams.
• Engineer AWS solutions across networking, compute, storage, CloudWatch, and cloud connectivity.
• Partner directly with internal stakeholders to understand and clarify infrastructure requirements.
• Translate application and business requirements into scalable AWS architecture.
• Design new infrastructure capabilities and connectivity patterns.
• Take ownership of solutions from requirements gathering and architecture through engineering implementation.
• Develop and push infrastructure code through established CI/CD pipelines.
• Participate in pull requests, peer reviews, and code-review processes.
• Work within a two-week Agile sprint model.
• Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with adjacent cloud and engineering teams.
• Contribute to future Terraform development within GCP.
• Participate in AI-enabled automation initiatives related to Terraform engineering and development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5-7+ years of relevant cloud, infrastructure, platform, or software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on AWS infrastructure experience.
• Strong understanding of AWS networking, compute, storage, monitoring, and related infrastructure services.
• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code.
• Experience developing reusable Terraform modules or comparable infrastructure components.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture and solution design.
• Ability to translate stakeholder requirements into technical infrastructure solutions.
• Ability to independently evaluate a requirement and determine the appropriate AWS architecture.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with source control, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-facing skills.
• Ability to operate effectively within a senior engineering environment.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a hands-on AWS cloud engineer who can both architect and build.
The individual does not need to be an expert across every AWS service area. Deep expertise in networking, compute, storage, or another major AWS infrastructure domain combined with broader working knowledge can be a strong fit.
The most important differentiator is the ability to take an infrastructure requirement, understand the underlying need, design the appropriate AWS architecture, and engineer the Terraform solution required to deliver it.
This is not primarily a production support or traditional DevOps position. The successful candidate should be comfortable owning technical solutioning and cloud engineering work from initial requirements through implementation.
