Our client is a multi-billion dollar global industry leader in the chemicals industry. We are exclusively retained with them on a Global Director of Procurement (Logistics & Transportation) opening for their location in the Chicago metro area. We are seeking someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced company that has experience in handling outsourcing of logistics, procurement for the Logistics department, and able to develop a global strategy for multiple decentralized business units.
The Global Director of Procurement (Logistics & Transportation) will manage a team with many of those employees working internationally. The organization is looking for someone who is a strong leader and able to build consensus as they have several different business units and many global locations that all have their own objectives. The organization has a lot of resources and they want the Director to be able to help increase the capabilities and talent of the Global Logistics team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the procurement for all distribution, transportation, and warehousing for all business units for all locations & regions within the organization.
- Manage and develop a Global Logistics team with employees located across multiple continents.
- Communicate with the leaders of each business unit and region to develop strategies that benefit the organization as a whole. Gain buy-in for implementation for new standards & processes.
- Optimize the logistics network globally for all business units.
- Ensure all logistics contracts and services provide reliable service at a competitive cost.
- Develop monthly scorecards and performance metrics for all logistics contracts and suppliers.
- Leverage all logistics agreements and suppliers to maximize benefit and service level.
- Implement best practices and create RFPS for Ocean Freight, 3PL, 4PL, rail, truck, and other intermodal contracts.
- Understand regional, national, and global trends in logistics to be ahead of the curve with industry best practices and regulatory changes.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree is required. An advanced degree or relevant APICS certification is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience leading logistics in a global or multi-continent role is required.
- Procurement experience for logistics is required. A spend of at least $300M is strongly preferred.
- Must be previous experience in outsourcing of logistics.
- Any previous exposure to shipping of chemicals or other hazardous materials is required.
- Prior exposure to SAP is beneficial but not required.
- Must be able to travel globally.
