Job #1688726
Contract
Austin, Texas, USA
80 - 100 per hour (USD)

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Director of Regulatory Relations and Oversight. This is a full-time consulting engagement supporting a financial technology and banking organization with a complex regulatory environment.

The consultant will serve as a hands-on regulatory leader responsible for regulator engagement, examination coordination, regulatory communications, remediation oversight, and executive-level reporting. This individual must understand how regulatory requirements apply to banking-as-a-service, payment platforms, and the infrastructure used to facilitate the movement of funds.
The successful consultant will combine strong regulatory judgment with the ability to coordinate detailed work across multiple business functions. This is an execution-oriented role requiring someone who can independently move regulatory matters forward rather than operating solely as a strategic advisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a principal point of coordination for relationships and interactions with applicable federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate regulatory examinations, inquiries, meetings, information requests, and follow-up activities.
  • Draft, review, and manage responses to regulatory letters and other formal regulatory communications.
  • Translate regulatory expectations into clear requirements, workstreams, owners, deliverables, and deadlines.
  • Track regulatory commitments, supervisory findings, corrective actions, and remediation plans through closure.
  • Work across Compliance, Risk, Legal, Operations, Product, Technology, and other business functions to address regulatory matters.
  • Evaluate regulatory issues in the context of banking-as-a-service, payment platforms, and payment infrastructure.
  • Support the development and review of disclosures related to payment products and services.
  • Prepare concise, executive-ready presentations describing regulatory issues, exposure, progress, dependencies, and remediation status.
  • Develop materials for executive leadership and board-level audiences.
  • Identify delays, control gaps, resource constraints, and other risks that could affect regulatory commitments.
  • Escalate material regulatory issues to senior leadership with clear analysis and recommended actions.
  • Coordinate regulatory risk assessments and support governance over regulatory change.
  • Monitor emerging regulatory expectations affecting payment and financial technology businesses.
  • Strengthen regulatory governance, issue-management processes, reporting, and accountability.
  • Promote a culture of regulatory compliance and effective cross-functional ownership.

Required Qualifications

  • Senior Manager or Director-level experience in regulatory relations, regulatory compliance, regulatory risk, or a closely related financial-services function.
  • Significant experience working in financial services, banking, payments, financial technology, or banking-as-a-service.
  • Direct experience interacting with banking or financial-services regulators.
  • Experience coordinating regulatory examinations, inquiries, requests, and formal responses.
  • Demonstrated experience managing regulatory findings, commitments, corrective actions, or remediation programs.
  • Working knowledge of payment platforms, payment infrastructure, and banking-as-a-service operating models.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory expectations and translate them into practical business requirements and action plans.
  • Experience developing executive and board-level presentations and regulatory status reporting.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and appropriately supported regulatory materials.
  • Ability to lead through influence and coordinate stakeholders across multiple business functions.
  • Strong judgment when handling confidential, sensitive, or high-impact regulatory matters.
  • Willingness and ability to operate as a hands-on individual contributor.
