Lucas Group is partnered with manufacturing client in the Santa Clarita area to find an outstanding Director of Payroll.  This hands-on role will oversee payroll strategy and process and will provide direction and development to the payroll department. The Director, Payroll Operations will manage and participate in the bi-weekly payroll process, accurate reporting of all payroll related activities, analysis, reporting, developing the payroll staff, creating and leading training initiatives on relevant policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all state, local and federal payroll requirements for the company. The incumbent will routinely interface with the Finance and will be part of the Human Resources Operations team.

The Director of Payroll will partner with various vendors regarding system upgrades, integrations and/or enhancements and recommend improvements to systems and processes. This role will lead payroll implementations, build cross functional interface solutions and will coordinate various audits to ensure data integrity and compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee direction and compliance of organizational pay practices
  • Manage bi-weekly distribution of multi-state, Puerto Rico and Canadian payroll, including garnishments, benefits, taxes, reporting and compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Develop and ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures as they relate to payroll.
  • Ensure integration and process improvements with and in collaboration with HR Services operations.
  • Mentor and develop direct reports
  • Facilitate SOX compliance audits including coordinating the preparation of internal/external audit documents
  • Support team members with complex research issues and escalated payroll inquires
  • Ensuring timely processing and accurate payment of all employees
  • Conduct various bi-weekly prior/post payroll audits and final sign-offs
  • Partner and collaborate with HR Services, Benefits and Finance teams to deliver services to our stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain internal and external customer and vendor relationships
  • Ensure all equity compensation (ISO, RS, Stocks) tax withholding's are calculated and remitted per IRS guidelines
  • Facilitate employee training as needed
  • Maintain system and departmental security set-up
  • Review and approve all manual checks and adjustments as required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly desired.
  • 8 plus years of payroll experience with career progression into a leadership role
  • Previous working knowledge of ADP WorkforceNow a plus.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Highly analytic and ability to assess data and provide solutions recommendations.
  • Proactive follow-through and perseverance to coordinate multiple responsibilities and projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, verbally and in written communications within all levels of management, including executive leadership team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience; coordinating and assisting with SOX and other various audits, as required
  • Previous experience managing project teams and leading and mentoring others
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism and courtesy to all employees and vendors, maintaining excellent vendor and business relationships
  • Must be well versed on current legislative/regulatory aspects that govern employee payroll with demonstrated knowledge of FLSA and California Wage Orders
  • Strong competency working with integrated HR and Payroll systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and advanced Excel skills required
