Director - Global Trade Compliance

Our client, a well-established leader in the powersports / recreational vehicle industry, is seeking a Director - Global Trade Compliance for a 6-month contract engagement with the option to extend. This role will support a global business that markets vehicles and related products through independent dealers, distributors, suppliers, and international business partners across North America, Europe, South America, the Middle East, Asia, and other global markets.

This is a highly visible role reporting into the legal function and partnering closely with procurement, finance, logistics, suppliers, international affiliates, and third-party business partners. The Director will be responsible for leading trade compliance activities, interpreting import/export regulations, strengthening compliance processes, supporting anti-corruption compliance activities, and ensuring required documentation, certifications, and controls are in place across the organization.

Responsibilities

Lead the interpretation and application of government regulations related to global trade compliance, including U.S. Code of Federal Regulations Title 19, Export Administration Regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations, and other applicable government agency requirements.

Research regulatory guidance and integrate import/export requirements into business processes, procedures, and internal controls to support compliant and efficient operations.

Develop, maintain, and improve customs compliance and export compliance procedures, policies, documentation, and training materials.

Collaborate with procurement, suppliers, and third-party partners to verify country-of-origin status for product marking, trade agreement eligibility, and related compliance requirements.

Support global anti-corruption compliance activities, including the collection, review, and maintenance of required business partner documentation in accordance with corporate compliance policies.

Partner with international affiliates to ensure import/export certificates, supporting documentation, and related compliance materials are complete, accurate, and maintained appropriately.

Develop and deliver trade compliance and anti-corruption compliance training across the organization as needed.

Collect, analyze, and maintain data related to free trade agreement certifications, duty drawback, reconciliation programs, denied party screenings, and other trade compliance programs.

Conduct periodic meetings with suppliers and third-party providers supporting trade compliance activities.

Work closely with corporate legal, finance, procurement, logistics, and business leadership on trade compliance and global anti-corruption matters.

Support internal and external audit requirements related to trade compliance, customs, export controls, and anti-corruption compliance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in legal studies, business, supply chain, logistics, international trade, or a related field required.

10+ years of experience in trade compliance, logistics, procurement, customs compliance, import/export compliance, or a closely related area required; 15+ years preferred.

Strong experience interpreting and applying global trade regulations, including CFR Title 19, EAR, ITAR, customs compliance requirements, and related government agency guidance.

Experience leading global anti-corruption compliance activities, business partner reviews, supplier documentation processes, or similar compliance programs.

Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to develop strategic plans, implement compliance processes, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and lead people or teams.

Experience working with procurement, suppliers, third-party providers, international affiliates, legal, finance, and business stakeholders.

Strong understanding of country-of-origin requirements, free trade agreement certification, denied party screening, duty drawback, reconciliation programs, import/export documentation, and audit support.

Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical business processes, policies, training, and controls.

Strong communication, documentation, analytical, and stakeholder-management skills.

Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Engagement Details

Contract role with an initial 6-month duration and option to extend.

Remote role with occasional travel expected to the Midwest (likely twice during engagement). All associated Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during standard daytime business hours aligned with Central Time.

W2 hourly compensation range of $100-$120 per hour, with access to medical benefits, PTO, and 401(k).
