Designer IV

Summary: Creates mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic designs for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies or system configurations using 3-D CAD Systems and works with little to no supervision.
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supports the department by studying engineering sketches, specifications and supporting documents; models, designs, details, documents, and verifies mechanical, structural, electrical electronic parts, subassemblies and assemblies with all levels of complexity
  • Ensures adherence to quality and cost parameters of the project
  • Depicts relationships of components and parts; identifies dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances and materials to abide by department standards
  • Prepares pressure vessel calculations with little to no guidance from engineer using pressure vessel software
  • Prepares Bills of Material and specifications; creates full package documentation required
  • Makes various calculations and frequently uses charts and tables to accommodate the design process
  • Analyzes the effect of proposed changes for proper form, fit and function; recommends solutions regarding cost saving design practices and procedures as related to the project; modifies drawings and models as required; confers with engineers to resolve issues and offers alternate solutions
  • Maintains technical knowledge by conferring with technical staff advisors, suppliers and industry specialists
  • Requires use of computers, proficient using 3-D CAD design; proficient using complete Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), proficient with email system, Microsoft Outlook preferred; strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic equipment


 

Required Education/Experience:

  • Associate's Degree or Technical School Training in ME, EE, Computer Aided Design Technology or related field
  • 10+ years of designing and documenting mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to coordinate others to accomplish objectives
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions
  • Strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical/electrical/electronic equipment
  • Working knowledge in compression, power generation or offshore oil and gas
  • Familiarity with any of the following tools: CADWorx Plant Professional 2008, CADWorx Equipment, ISOGEN, PVELITE, PRO-E, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical, Oracle
