Title: Database Lead/ DBA

Location: Remote w/ 10-50% travel to client site during the contract duration

Client Industry: Professional Services

Compensation: $60 - $70/hr.

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Database Lead/DBA. The Database Lead / Database Administrator (DBA) owns database discovery, migration readiness, and validation across the application landscape for a Microsoft GCC High migration. The role partners with application owners, cloud engineers, security teams, and migration leads to identify database dependencies, plan backup and restore activity, tune performance, and validate data integrity. Success is measured by accurate database inventories, reliable migrations, compliant data handling, and minimal application disruption during cutover.

Responsibilities

  • Own database discovery, inventory, and dependency mapping across the application landscape
  • Assess database migration readiness, risks, data sensitivity, and technical constraints
  • Plan and execute backup, restore, migration, and rollback procedures for SQL Server and Azure SQL databases
  • Validate data integrity, completeness, performance, and application connectivity after migration events
  • Tune database performance before, during, and after migration to support business continuity
  • Coordinate with application, infrastructure, cloud, security, and project teams on migration sequencing
  • Document migration plans, validation evidence, issue logs, and operational handoff materials
  • Support remote work with planned travel to client sites for discovery, testing, and cutover activities

Skills Required

  • SQL Server administration, performance tuning, backup, restore, and troubleshooting
  • Azure SQL configuration, migration support, and operational validation
  • Database migration tools and methods for discovery, assessment, move, and validation phases
  • Data integrity validation, reconciliation, and issue resolution across source and target systems
  • Backup and recovery planning, including rollback procedures and restore testing
  • Performance analysis for queries, indexing, resource usage, and application response times
  • Secure handling of sensitive data in Microsoft GCC High or comparable regulated environments
  • Application dependency analysis across databases, integrations, and reporting workloads
  • Clear documentation of inventories, runbooks, test results, and migration evidence
  • Coordination with application owners, cloud engineers, security teams, and migration leadership

Education & Work Experience

  • Relevant degree preferred in information technology, computer science, data management, or equivalent experience
  • 6-9 years of database administration, database migration, or data platform experience
  • Candidates without a degree must have a qualifying Microsoft Azure certification, Microsoft 365 certification, Microsoft Intune certification, or Desktop MCSC certification
  • Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, data migration, backup/restore, and performance tuning
