Title: Data Engineer / Database Engineer (API focus)

Location: Hybrid (New York City) or Remote (for candidates located outside NYC)

Contract Type: 6-Month Contract (Potential Extension or Conversion)

Position Overview: A growing financial services organization is investing heavily in technology and data infrastructure as it continues to scale its engineering team. This individual will be responsible for owning and optimizing data models and database services that support critical business applications and platforms. The ideal candidate will bring strong database engineering experience, API development expertise, and a passion for leveraging AI-driven tools and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain data models and database services
• Own the operational data layer supporting modern applications and platforms
• Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and schema design
• Ensure database security, availability, scalability, and reliability
• Develop and maintain APIs, including GraphQL-based services
• Troubleshoot and resolve production database issues
• Collaborate with engineering and data teams to build scalable solutions
• Contribute to a hands-on engineering culture focused on business outcomes

Required Qualifications:

• 4-7+ years of database development/engineering experience
• Strong experience with relational databases:
• PostgreSQL
• MySQL
• SQL Server
• Experience with NoSQL databases:
• MongoDB Atlas
• Amazon DynamoDB
• Expertise in:
• Query optimization
• Performance tuning
• Database security
• Schema design
• High availability solutions
• Strong API development experience
• GraphQL experience preferred
• Experience working within Azure cloud environments
• Financial services experience strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree required
• AI-first mindset with practical use of AI productivity and development tools
