Senior Analyst - Life & Annuity STAT Reporting

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Life & Annuity STAT Reporting Senior Analyst to support and execute statutory close and reporting activities for Life & Annuity legal entities within a complex insurance organization. This role is heavily focused on day-to-day statutory accounting execution, regulatory compliance, and high-quality financial reporting, with opportunities to contribute to process improvements over time.

The Senior Analyst will play a critical role in preparing and analyzing statutory financial results, supporting regulatory filings, and partnering closely with Actuarial, Investments, FP&A, and Corporate Accounting to ensure accurate, timely, and well-controlled STAT reporting. This role is well suited for a strong statutory practitioner who enjoys hands-on ownership, technical depth, and operating within a structured close environment.

Key Responsibilities

STAT Financial Reporting & Close

  • Support monthly and quarterly STAT close and reporting processes for Life & Annuity legal entities.
  • Prepare NAIC statutory financial statements, schedules, footnotes, and supporting workpapers.
  • Analyze and reconcile STAT balances related to reserves, DAC, reinsurance, investments, surplus, and capital.
  • Perform variance analysis and document key drivers of period-over-period movements.
  • Coordinate inputs and dependencies across Accounting, Actuarial, Investments, and FP&A to meet close timelines.

Regulatory & Technical Accounting

  • Apply NAIC statutory accounting guidance (SSAPs) and state-specific regulatory requirements in day-to-day reporting.
  • Partner with Actuarial to understand reserve movements, assumption updates, and statutory impacts.
  • Support regulatory filings, state DOI inquiries, and external audit requests.
  • Assist with assessing and implementing new or updated statutory guidance.

Controls, Governance & Audit

  • Execute SOX / Model Audit Rule (MAR) controls related to statutory reporting.
  • Prepare audit-ready documentation, reconciliations, and supporting analyses.
  • Respond to internal and external audit requests and support issue remediation efforts.
  • Maintain clear documentation of processes, assumptions, and key judgments.

Reporting Effectiveness & Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting activities, reduce manual adjustments, and improve data accuracy.
  • Support incremental improvements to close processes, reconciliations, and reporting workflows.
  • Provide input on system enhancements or reporting tools used in statutory reporting.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Statutory Accounting, Actuarial, Investments, FP&A, and Corporate Finance partners.
  • Communicate statutory results, issues, and analyses clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support broader finance initiatives by providing statutory data and insights as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years of experience in statutory accounting or financial reporting within Life & Annuity insurance.
  • Solid working knowledge of NAIC statutory accounting principles (SSAPs) and Life & Annuity products.
  • Experience supporting STAT close processes and regulatory filings.
  • Familiarity with operating in a SOX / Model Audit Rule (MAR) environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Experience with statutory reporting and close tools (e.g., Workiva, Oracle Financials, SAP, PeopleSoft).
  • Experience partnering with Actuarial and Investment Accounting teams.
  • Exposure to multi-entity or complex Life & Annuity organizations.
  • Interest in process improvement and reporting efficiency initiatives.
