Job #1690485
Contract
Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
100 - 150 per hour (USD)

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Senior Commercial Operations & PMO Consultant to improve the operating rhythm, documentation, reporting, and portfolio-management practices of a commercial innovation team within the pharmaceutical industry. This role is hybrid in Cambridge, MA area.

This consultant will assess the team's current ways of working, engage stakeholders across a broad portfolio of initiatives, and design practical, customized solutions that improve visibility, knowledge sharing, prioritization, and follow-through. This is a hands-on consulting engagement rather than an implementation of a standard, out-of-the-box methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with team members and cross-functional stakeholders to understand current projects, requests, deliverables, workflows, and documentation practices.
  • Evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities to strengthen organization, reporting, knowledge sharing, and accountability.
  • Establish a master project tracker, including the supporting data model, governance practices, and data-quality standards.
  • Ensure the project database can reliably support executive dashboards, portfolio reporting, and resourcing decisions.
  • Design and manage an at-a-glance innovation portfolio dashboard.
  • Develop criteria and decision-support practices for determining when initiatives should be scaled, sustained, or sunset.
  • Identify portfolio-level patterns, dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs, and translate findings into clear recommendations for leadership.
  • Build a methodology for forecasting team capacity against project milestones.
  • Guide team leaders in using capacity forecasts to make informed resourcing, sequencing, and prioritization decisions.
  • Establish standards for developing and using project charters.
  • Improve stakeholder alignment, accelerate decision points, and create durable institutional knowledge through consistent documentation.
  • Recommend practical follow-through mechanisms that help the team sustain the new processes after the initial advisory work is completed.
  • Deliver solutions tailored to the team's complex portfolio rather than relying on generic consulting frameworks or presentation-only recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Commercial pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience.
  • Demonstrated PMO, program management, portfolio management, or business operations experience.
  • Experience assessing complex operating environments and creating customized processes, governance structures, and reporting solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build or improve project trackers, dashboards, forecasting models, project charters, and management reporting.
  • Strong stakeholder-engagement and facilitation skills across multiple functions and levels of leadership.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into practical recommendations and sustainable operating practices.
  • Strong written communication, documentation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Consulting experience, either with a consulting firm or in a comparable internal advisory capacity.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver within a short, outcomes-focused engagement.
