Cloud Engineer / Architect - AWS (Plant / OT Environments)
The AWS Cloud Engineer / Architect will play a key role in designing, building, and operationalizing hybrid cloud solutions that integrate AWS with onprem manufacturing systems. This role is highly execution focused and requires comfort working close to plant operations.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Design and implement hybrid cloud architectures integrating AWS with onprem plant and OT systems
- Build and configure AWS environments to support manufacturing workloads, analytics, and data flows
- Establish secure connectivity between plant networks and AWS (e.g., VPN, Direct Connect, network segmentation)
- Implement cloud networking and security controls, including VPC design, IAM, security groups, and monitoring
- Deploy infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- Support ingestion, processing, and movement of plant and operational data into AWS platforms
- Partner closely with plant IT, OT teams, and other SWAT team members to align solutions with operational needs
- Troubleshoot and remediate performance, security, and connectivity issues across hybrid environments
- Document architectures, configurations, and operational runbooks
Key Deliverables
- Production ready AWS architectures aligned to manufacturing and OT requirements
- Secure, reliable hybrid connectivity between AWS and plant systems
- Automated, repeatable infrastructure deployments using IaC
- Standardized cloud patterns that can be replicated across multiple plants
- Clear technical documentation and knowledge transfer artifacts to support ongoing operations
Required Skills & Experience
- Senior level AWS architecture and hands on implementation experience
- Strong experience designing and operating hybrid cloud environments (AWS + on?prem)
- Deep knowledge of AWS networking and security (VPCs, IAM, routing, connectivity)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
- Prior experience supporting cloud solutions tied to manufacturing, industrial, energy, or heavy manufacturing environments
- Comfort working in plant environments and partnering with OT and operations teams
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting plant data pipelines, analytics, or IIoT use cases
- Exposure to regulated or safety?critical operational environments
- Experience working in multi?plant or global manufacturing footprints
