We have been engaged by a Private Equity owned distribution and services company in Lakewood, New Jersey. Our client, a rapidly growing business, is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to oversee operations between two facilities.

In this position, you will be responsible for finance and accounting, revenue and expense recognition, cash management, accounts receivable and payable processing and management, budgeting, financial analysis, and development and reporting of financial statements and key operating metrics. The Chief Financial Officer will be expected to provide input and oversite of broader operational aspects of the organization.

The CFO will be a key member of a lean senior management team and work closely with the CEO, who is also the founder of the business.  Secondarily, the CFO will communicate extensively to the private equity partner with respect to certain financial analyses, support on acquisitions and financings, and in conjunction with board meetings. 

Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of a timely closing process, fulfillment of regular tax and financial reporting requirements, and development of detailed and organized operating budgets and forecasts.
  • Development and preparation of other financial reporting packages and key operating metrics for other members of the management team, investor group, and Board of Directors.  Provide analytical support and input to drive process improvement in all areas of the business.
  • Development and preparation of monthly summaries for current outstanding jobs (<50 at any given time), with detailed tracking of invoicing and inventory schedules.
  • Effective management and supervision of a lean accounting staff, with supervision of additional functional areas (e.g., IT, HR) likely. 
  • Development and implementation of a firm-wide employee benefit plan; management and oversight of property and casualty insurance programs.
  • Communication with and management of the relationship with the Company’s external auditors and other possible outside advisors (benefits, IT, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing and synthesizing financial and operating data to help identify opportunities for improved performance and to develop key metrics that help management drive and monitor such improvement efforts.
  • Deep system/financial controls implementation (CPA is a plus).
  • A generalist approach to the financial function and the capability to embrace both the strategic, operational, and tactical challenges of the role.
  • The diplomatic skills and credibility to interface directly and effectively with other member of the management team as well as the financial partner and other external constituencies.  This will require a high degree of candor, integrity, and intelligence.
  • The ability to represent the business results and plans in a timely, concise, and accurate manner.
