Our client is a 100 year-old global, family owned company that is an industry leader in providing material handling, wastewater treatment, pollutant control, BOP services, and other systems to support the power, coal wastewater & other industries. We are partnering with them on a Building Engineer opening to work out of their HQ in the northern Chicago suburbs.
The Building Engineer will be responsible for general building maintenance and repair. The Building Engineer’s primary focus will be on the office building with some additional focus for the onsite plant and another production facility within 15 minutes of the site. You would be the only Building Engineer for this corporate location so we are looking for someone who is both hands-on and professional. The Building Engineer will manage the outsourcing of relevant work in addition to working with the Maintenance team for capital improvement and plant equipment projects.
Building Engineer Responsibilities
- Ensure that all building, mechanical, electrical, and communication systems, grounds, landscaping, and equipment are in good operational condition
- Oversee contractors to provide quality, timely and cost-effective results
- Perform basic facilities maintenance and repairs including Critical Facility Systems (i.e., Office HVAC, Emergency Generator, etc.)
- Maintain, operate, and repair chiller systems including, but not limited to annual inspections, tube cleaning, leak checking, and safety controls (check)
- Monitor and respond to environmental alarms (not limited to normal business hours)
- Respond to employee requests in a professional and timely manner
- Supervise vendors during preventive maintenance and execute corrective measure as required
- Safety and Security: Assist in safety programs that align with the charter of the Safety Committee
- Adapt the use of the Cottingham and Butler Cisco captive insurance cooperative in addition to local city services to identify required safety procedures that require further development and implementation.
- Manage security systems (access, intruder and back-up) to ensure safe and productive operations.
- Budget: Prepare and manager the annual budget. And capitol expense plan.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Building Engineer Requirements
- A minimum of 3 or more years as a Building Engineer
- An Associate Degree or Bachelor degree is preferred
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
- Forklift certification
- Must be comfortable communicating with corporate executives, internal employees, and external contractors
